Combustion

Artist:Karen Margolis
Year:2019

Karen Margolis’s art delves into the relationship between color and emotion, underscoring her belief that color represents the hope and expression of life, capturing the intensity and depth of feelings. Her works begin with a simple circle and evolve through the use of a color dot matrix to encode and visually represent internal emotions, transforming these feelings into distinct visual patterns. Through this process, Karen constructs a visual representation of the mind’s structure, exploring themes of life and death, and perfection and imperfection. She uses the circle as a fundamental shape, serving as a bridge that connects the macro and micro, as well as the physical and psychological realms.

She has developed a visual language that elegantly links physical form with mental states. Her approach inspires me to delve into both the form and content of my works, allowing me to express my inner feelings and thoughts. By exploring the integration of physical and abstract elements, I can cultivate a unique mode of expression. This approach will enable the audience to experience not only the aesthetic beauty of the works but also the depth and diversity of the emotions conveyed.
