Speculum

Artist:SMACK (Ton Meijdam,Thom Snels and Béla Zsigmond)
Year:2019

The artwork immerses viewers in a Garden of Eden infiltrated by modern technology, delving into themes of isolation, technology addiction, and self-identity.

SMACK’s creations offer a visual narrative for the digital era through novel environments and Renaissance painting techniques, mirroring the challenges and discomforts of contemporary society.

The artwork’s fusion of classical art and modern technology brings fresh inspiration to my project. It illustrates how to reinterpret traditional themes through a contemporary lens, motivating me to incorporate more innovative elements into my designs. The application of LED screens and digital animation can inspire me to explore different expressive techniques, conveying traditional art through modern media, and imbuing my work with new visual impact and interactivity.
